SAN FRANCISCO, CA (MARKET WIRE) Cannabis Science Inc., an emerging pharmaceutical cannabis company, is pleased to report that the FDA has provided the Company with documentation to assist the Company to review and plan its initial applications to get its first drug into formal testing.
Cannabis Science, Inc. President & CEO Dr. Robert Melamede stated, "After speaking directly with the FDA discussing our products and initiatives I was pleasantly surprised with the hands on approach they have with helping us map our path to get our products into testing. We have a ways to go, but I am very optimistic that we have an opportunity to have more than one product in testing and trials at the same time. We have an exciting new initiative we plan to announce shortly and I would like to thank our current and future shareholders for helping to make this happen."
Cannabis Science H1N1 Swine Flu Formulation:
We now know that the endocannabinoid system plays a critical role in maintaining human health. The human body produces Endocannabinoids on demand when they are needed. They help restore homeostasis (biochemical balance). The Cannabis plant produces Phytocannabinoids. When the human body has endocannabinoid deficiencies, it cannot effectively restore the healthy biochemical state needed to counter a particular illness. Phytocannabinoids from the Cannabis plant can replace the deficient endocannabinoid activity in the human body to restore a health-promoting level of cannabinoid activity. Cannabis Science will test its cannabis extract lozenge with FDA guidance and oversight to determine if it will reduce ARDS-associated deaths from both the Avian and Swine influenza infections.
H1N1 Swine Flu:
According to the CDC (http://www.cdc.gov/flu/avian/) the Avian flu (H5N1) has a 63% mortality rate. Unfortunately, the Swine flu, while causing death at a much lower rate than the Avian flu, appears to also result in death via a similar mechanism. The common cause of death with these strains is organ failure, especially as seen in the lungs with the development of Adult Respiratory Distress Syndrome (ARDS). ARDS is caused by an excess immune-generated inflammatory response that leads to apoptosis (cell death) and subsequently to organ failure. The Company's approach will mimic how the human body uses endocannabinoids (cannabinoids that occur naturally in the body) to regulate immune activity and cell survival, by regulating inflammatory biochemistry. Excessive inflammatory responses are associated with numerous disease states including autoimmune diseases, neurological imbalances, and cardiovascular disease. Phytocannabinoids provide a natural means to supplement illness-specific endocannabinoid deficiencies.
About Cannabis Science, Inc.
Cannabis Science, Inc. is at the forefront of medical marijuana research and development. The Company works with world authorities on phytocannabinoid science targeting critical illnesses, and adheres to scientific methodologies to develop, produce, and commercialize phytocannabinoid-based pharmaceutical products. In sum, we are dedicated to the creation of cannabis-based medicines, both with and without psychoactive properties, to treat disease and the symptoms of disease, as well as for general health maintenance.

Korean Film Star Causes Uproar with Pot Comments

By calling for the legalization of marijuana during a television interview Korean actress Kim Bu-seon has landed in hot water.
No stranger to controversy Bu-seon has also been arrested many times for possession. In her comments delivered on a popular morning TV show on Friday the actress spoke out against the persecution of celebrities in South Korea who inhale.

The recent arrest of actor Oh Gwang-rok led to her latest call for the legalization of marijuana as well as lashing out against the government. "Whenever the government has troubles, it uses drug-taking entertainers to divert people's attention," she said in a pre-recorded interview. "It is the best way to make entertainers and artists obey the government."

She also explained that Korea has a proud history of marijuana use for medicinal purposes. "Marijuana is not a narcotic; it is technically an Oriental herbal medicine which Koreans have used for 5,000 years.
"If smoking it doesn't do harm to others, those who do need it, such as those suffering from depression or cancer patients, should be allowed to use it," said Bu-seon. "Korea has the highest ratio of death by suicide among OECD members. The nation needs to take marijuana as a depression remedy and make depression patients come back to society."
Viewers were appalled by Bu-seon's comments and have demanded an apology from the public broadcaster MBC.
Rhode Island Will License Medical Marijuana Shops

The Rhode Island legislature overrode a gubernatorial veto of a medical marijuana law last week by an overwhelming margin, paving the way for state-licensed medical marijuana shops to begin operating. The House voted 68-0 for the pot measure and the senate moved it minutes later by a 35-3 count.
Once the law takes effect, the state will be the first in the nation to have one officially licensed nonprofit center selling marijuana. Over time, the state will license further nonprofit dispensaries.
The bill got a boost in the state after a much publicized incident in which a pot dealer beat up a medical marijuana patient. Proponents of the bill argued that patients shouldn't have to deal with unregulated, unlicensed drug dealers, but deserved a more orderly system.
In March, New Mexico became the first state to grant a state license to a medical marijuana producer.

WORLD'S MOST FAMOUS POTHEAD CASHES IN

America's favorite bong banger, Michael Phelps, has rebounded from his fall from grace with the general public and is the new spokesman for H2O Audio. Sounds like a match made in heaven as bongs and water go together as well as bongs and water.
Phelps rose to cultural prominence by winning some medals in something called the olympics. He rose to counter-cultural prominence when the above photograph was splashed across the front pages of newspapers around the world in February.
"We are a young company of athletes for athletes, and our relationship with Michael will undoubtedly benefit our technology, product performance and design," said Kristian Rauhala, founder and ceo, H2O Audio. "Michael embodies our vision and commitment to excellence, and reinforces our dedication to improving the training experience with music anywhere, anytime."
Phelps, known for his pre-race trance listening to his iPod, joins other well known "water" enthusiasts representing the H2O brand including big-wave surfer Laird Hamilton. "Music has always been a huge part of my life and my training," commented Phelps. "H20's line of waterproof headphones and accessories will help swimmers of all ages and skill levels, as well as other athletes, to incorporate music as part of their time in and around the water."
A more cynical person would substitute "music" for "weed."

Surf's Up for Winter Surfers in New Zealand

Beaches were turned into a winter wonderland as hailstorms hammered the North Island, prompting snowboarders to hit the sand dunes. Winter came early in dramatic fashion yesterday as a mini-tornado, hail, rain and snow sent chills across the country.
There really isn't much else to this story other than these few words and the pic up above. But if you want to read on about the freak storm in New Zealand be my guest.

Marijuana law not worth cost of enforcing

In its Sunday editorial the Redding Record Searchlight states that "It makes far more sense to raise taxes from pot sales than to waste our shrinking resources in a futile effort to stop them."
In 2006, the most recent year for which statistics are available, police in California made 65,000 felony and misdemeanor arrests for marijuana. Relatively few of those lawbreakers ended up doing hard time in state prison, but the endless pursuit of marijuana smokers and suppliers is a substantial drain on increasingly scarce law-enforcement resources at every level, from police to courts to probation offices.

Is Marijuana Legalization a Big Government Plot?

What are stoners smoking that makes them advocate less available, more expensive, and highly bureaucratized marijuana? That’s the question provoked by any sober reading of the various proposals to legalize marijuana.

Earn Swag: Add Your Fave Surf, Ski, Skate Locale to New Website

Do you have a favorite surf, ski or skateboard spot that you want to share with the WORLD? 5ones.com has launched a new component to its website on May 5, that allows contributors to add their faves with the added inducement of earning some swag in an introductory contest.
"Think of it as a local search that is specific to action sports," states 5ones Editor in Chief, Cameron Olthuis with regards to the 5ones Earth site that was six months in development, "Our goal is to have the most comprehensive resource available for riding spots, so no matter where you're at you can always find the best places to ride and the best shops to grab new gear at."
If you are familiar with navigating Google Earth you should have no problems navigating 5ones Earth. For the uninitiated there are video tutorials to get them headed in the right direction. Otherwise it is a case of logging in, finding your spot on the map and typing away.
The site offers registered users the opportunity to submit 200 character descriptions of favored parks, runs or slopes. The more submissions that an individual makes during the contest period which ends May 19, the more points are awarded to the individual .
Skate and surf spots are worth three points each while snow spots are curiously valued at a mere one point. Similarly, company headquarters and pro shops are awarded a rather robust two points. The aim of the contest is to create awareness and rapidly populate the site with global action sport locales in a fun and interesting manner.
To that end registered users can track their progress in the contest with a real-time leaderboard. Readers can also submit photos and comment on other submissions. In the coming months plans are underway to introduce iPhone and Facebook applications to broaden the reach of the website.
Whether it's surfing in Mexico or skiing in Canada you can start planning your next adventure while facilitating the plans of a fellow adventurer with your contribution.

Mexico Senate OKs bill to legalize drug possesion

Mexico's Senate approved a bill last week decriminalizing possession of small amounts of weed for personal use. Hooray! But before you get too excited they did this in order to free up some coin and the judiciary to fight the drug cartels.
The bill would make it legal to carry up to 5 grams of marijuana as well as small quantities of blow (500 milligrams) and teeny-tiny quantities of other drugs such as smack and glass.

Human Brains Make Their Own 'Marijuana'

Human Brains Make Their Own 'Marijuana'
So that's why I feel stoned so often....its the brain...something about receptors (I'm receptive to receptors whatever they may be). Wait a minute, what do they mean by "devoid of the side effects that limit the usefulness of marijuana"? I find marijuana very useful, especially when I want to smoke marijuana.
